"Quality is never an accident; it is always
the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent
direction and skilful execution; it represents the wise choice
of many alternatives."
William A. Foster
You need to
understand that if you are in any type of business that is to
have a future, you must be very clear about the quality of your
goods or service and take steps to ensure that your agreed
quality is delivered to the customer or user every time. There
are two parts to defining quality:
Quality Design:
Does
the design of your product or service meet the consumers need or
expectation
Your design quality – as well as price-
should always be tested with as many potential customers as
possible before you start trading
Quality Conformance:
Does every product or service you provide
meet your Quality Design? (You will need regular checks or tests
to make sure they do!) You can sell anything once, but your
customers will only buy your goods or services on a regular
basis if you meet their needs and expectations – or better them!
You need to work to delight your customers!
It
is simply not good enough to mix good with bad product and try
to sell it, or to provide a poor service to your customers. It
is far better to bear the cost of scrapping or reworking poor
quality product than risk disappointed customers and your
reputation!
The only safe route to install and ‘ensure
quality’ is to set an agreed written specification for what you
are going to supply and then set standards outside of which you
will not trade. This will also mean at some stage a developing a
specification for all the materials you purchase, to be agreed
with your suppliers and to develop a specification for
production of your goods or service.
Quality is vital for your success – think
carefully about what ‘quality’ really means to your product or
service and then take steps to ensure that every time your
customers buy your product or service they get the same
consistent quality.
There is much more information that you will
need to consider regarding the specific design and conformance
quality of the quality of your goods or service, which we will
be including in the microenterprise profiles

quantity." George MacDonald
